When the machine stops, you need a tech — not a queue.

Chief's CNC Services is an independent, OEM-trained field service company based in Neosho, Wisconsin. Fifteen-plus years factory-trained on Makino, Ellison Technologies and DMG Mori equipment — now bringing that same level of service to every shop, on most makes and models, without the dealer runaround.

What we do

Full-service CNC machine tool repair and maintenance

We do not sell machines. Service is the entire business — which means the recommendation you get is the one that puts your spindle back in the cut, not the one that moves iron off a sales floor.

Mechanical Repair

Spindles, ballscrews, way covers, ATC and tool changer faults, turrets, chip conveyors, coolant systems, hydraulics and pneumatics, gearboxes and rotary tables.

Electrical & Controls

Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Haas and Brother controls. Alarm diagnosis, servo and drive faults, encoders and scales, I/O and relay logic, parameter recovery, backup and restore.

Alignment & Geometry

Machine leveling, laser alignment, ballbar circularity testing, squareness and perpendicularity, backlash and pitch-error compensation, spindle sweeps.

Preventive Maintenance

Scheduled PM plans that catch wear before it becomes a breakdown — three levels, priced per machine, with a written report every visit.

Install & Relocation

Rigging coordination, placement, leveling, power and air hookup, commissioning, runoff and operator handoff. Moving a cell or a whole shop, we can run the machine side.

Certification & Calibration

Documented accuracy verification for ISO 9001 and AS9100 audits — ballbar reports, laser positioning data, geometry certificates and probe calibration your quality manager can file.

Rebuild & Retrofit Support

Evaluation, teardown planning, way and geometry recovery, and the machine-side work around a control retrofit — plus an honest opinion on whether a rebuild beats a replacement.

Emergency Breakdown

Down machine? Call. We triage over the phone at no charge and tell you honestly whether it's a site visit, a part, or something your maintenance guy can handle today.

Brands

Factory-trained depth, multi-brand coverage

Deep OEM training on the platforms below, plus general machine tool service on most makes and models. If it has a spindle and a control, start with a phone call — we'll tell you straight if it's outside our wheelhouse.

Why shops call us

The tech who answers the phone is the tech who shows up

  • OEM-trained, not OEM-bound. Five years Makino, three at Ellison Technologies, seven at DMG Mori including time as a service manager. The training is factory; the loyalty is to your uptime.
  • No dispatch layer. You talk to the person doing the work. Nothing gets lost between a call center and a service board.
  • Honest triage. If a phone call solves it, that's what we do. We would rather earn a PM contract than pad an invoice.
  • Written reports. Every visit ends with what we found, what we did, what we recommend, and what it will cost — in writing.
  • Veteran-owned. Retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer. Show up on time, tell the truth, finish the job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you service machines you didn't sell?

Yes — that is the whole model. Chief's CNC Services does not sell machine tools. We are an independent field service company, so we work on whatever is on your floor regardless of who sold it or whether the warranty has expired.

How fast can you get to a down machine in southeast Wisconsin?

Call and we will tell you honestly. Phone triage happens the same day; most of southeast and south-central Wisconsin is inside a 90-minute drive, and emergency breakdowns get priority over scheduled maintenance work.

What machine brands do you work on?

Factory training on DMG Mori, Makino, Haas, Brother, OKK and Doosan / DN Solutions, plus general machine tool service on Mazak, Okuma, Mori Seiki, Hurco, Toyoda and most other makes with Fanuc, Siemens or Mitsubishi controls.

Do you offer preventive maintenance contracts?

Yes. Three plan levels, priced per machine and scheduled around your production calendar. See the maintenance plans page.

Are you set up for government and defense work?

Yes. SAM.gov registration is active, and the business is a self-certified service-disabled veteran-owned small business with UEI XSD9M6G66CD3 and CAGE code 20GP4. See the government page for the full capability statement.

Machine down? Let's get it cutting again.

Straight answers, honest diagnostics, and a tech who has actually rebuilt the machine you're standing next to.
